Nothing’s third ever smartphone is a mere whisper right now. The fledgling firm has sent out invites for an event in February at Mobile World Congress 2024, but the rumour mill says we’re unlikely to see a handset revealed – instead expect official confirmation of its existence, and possibly the first hardware details.
It would make sense for the new handset to be an entry-level model, possibly replacing Phone 1 in the line-up. It will have been around for two years in July. The higher-end Phone 2 likely has another year of life before it’s due an upgrade. Patent filing images hint at a very similar design – transparent rear and glyph lighting – to the current Nothing line-up. Even the name is a mystery; some have suggested Nothing Phone 3, while others think it’ll be Nothing 1a.
We’re expecting Nothing to continue selling Phone 2 for the foreseeable, and it’s up there with the best mid-rangers around:

Design & Specs
Nothing has gone well in keeping its next flagship phone under wraps. We're also not sure if it'll be called the Nothing Phone 3, though that's the only option if the company wants to keep a clear lineage to its previous handsets. In the same vein, Nothing will stick to its transparent back design with the Nothing Phone 3 as it's one of the biggest visual differences the company has to offer. It will almost certainly again have glyph lights, strips of LED lights that can be controlled by software for notifications and as video fill lights.
We expect the Nothing Phone 3 to go for similar specs as its predecessor. Instead of going for the latest technology, Nothing chose to use a processor from last year. In the case of the Nothing Phone 2, it was the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 instead of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that was available at launch. This meant that the company could offer the phone slightly cheaper without significantly reducing performance. Nothing will follow a similar strategy with the Nothing Phone 3 to undercut rivals on price.
On one hand, there are rumors that nothing is working on the "Phone 2a," which will be the company's cheaper mid-range option. If this naming scheme pans out, it will follow the same strategy as the Google Pixel A series. We've heard rumors about a cheap nothing phone before. The company's CEO denied the rumors, so take this information with a grain of salt.
Software
When it comes to hardware and software, nothing is known for focusing on aesthetics without adding unnecessary bloatware. While Nothing Phone 1 felt close to the experience of the Pixel phones (minus some Pixel-specific features), Phone 2 added heavier theming options, with an optional black-and-white look for your home screen and thoughtful lock screen widgets. are The Nothing Phone 3 will likely continue down that path, offering more customization without adding unnecessary bloatware.
With the Phone 2, nothing promises three years of Android updates and four years of bimonthly security patches. That was still good enough for 2023, but since then many manufacturers have caught up to the area and left nothing behind. We hope the company provides long-term support for the Phone 3.
Cameras
The camera experience on the two current Nothing smartphones is a mixed bag. The company fixed many of the early problems with the Phone 1 in software, but it never reached par with Samsung phones and Pixels in the same price range. The Phone 2 is better, but still not as good as many competitors.
In good lighting conditions, the Phone 2 takes good photos, not letting each black spot look too natural instead of trying to make it as bright as the rest. The iPhone 2 still can't compete in challenging lighting conditions, with slow shutter speeds and long exposure times hampering the experience. It's clear that Nothing's image processing needs some work, and we expect the Phone 3 to succeed in that department.
Price and Release Window
It's hard to predict how much the Nothing Phone 3 will cost, as the price was different between its two predecessors. The Nothing Phone 1, which never launched in the U.S. outside of a limited beta program, went for £400 or €470 (about $500) in Europe, while the Phone 2 saw an increase of about $100, with the U.S. I reached $600. . Depending on which upgrades the phone 3 adds to the nothing, we could see another $100 increase. Still, the company may stick with the $600 launch with the Phone 2. It is unlikely that the price will differ significantly from its predecessor.
